Botswana Education information and Institutes

At independence, Botswana’s population was mostly illiterate with very few graduates. However, this changed with the discovery of diamonds as education facilities were extended to most parts of the country with a guaranteed 10 years of basic education. Up till 2006, for over two decades there was a free-state education system in Botswana this greatly managed to raise the literacy level in Botswana to 83%.

The education system in Botswana is designed such that one has to go through 10 years of basic education, 2 years of secondary education which leads to the award of a general certificate of secondary education and eventually the final stage-university.

Even if free-state education was abolished in 2006, the government offers full scholarships for Botswana citizens at university level. It goes on to sponsor nationals’ study abroad for those vying for courses that are not locally offered. Below is a guide to the universities contacts in Botswana:
